Is it that time again?
I know that we're still a year away from Primary season, but I was interested to see the following polling numbers from a company known as Public Policy Polling. The takers of the poll asked a sample size of 600 reponders, between February 11th and 14th, which candidate they would be more likely to vote for in the 2012 presidential election if the two names were the respective candidates for the Democratic and Republican parties.
Here were the results:
Barack Obama 47% Mike Huckabee 44% (Obama +3)
Barack Obama 52% Sarah Palin 40% (Obama +12)
Barack Obama 49% Newt Gingrich 40% (Obama +9)
Barack Obama 46% Mitt Romney 41% (Obama +5)
Barack Obama 48% Ron Paul 39% (Obama +9)
Barack Obama 48% Donald Trump 34% (Obama +14)
Barack Obama 50% Jeb Bush 36% (Obama +14)
Barack Obama 48% George W. Bush 44% (Obama +4)
The biggest surprise for me was that George W. Bush would do that well if he was permitted to run for a third term. I'm not surprised that Sarah Palin or Donald Trump do as poorly as they appear, but I didn't think that Jeb Bush was in the same class, or that Ron Paul polled as well as he did.
At the recent CPAC Conference, Donald Trump told the crowd that the Republicans couldn't win with Ron Paul. Maybe not, but they do better with him than with the Donald.
I'd love to hear any opinions you have on this poll or on what you think will happen in November of 2012.
