CIA, FBI, NSA, but what the heck is the NCTA?
Apparently this year the White House Christmas tree was delivered by a horse drawn wagon. According to aa Reuters news story the tree was delivered on Friday, November 26th and first lady Michelle Obama and her children Sasha and Malia on hand to receive it as a military band played "Oh Christmas Tree." The tree is a Douglas fir and it came from Lehighton, Pennsylvania. Reporters watching the arrival spotted President Barack Obama through an upstairs White House window holding what appeared to be a compress against his mouth.The president was accidentally elbowed in the face while playing basketball earlier in the day. He received 12 stitches to his lip.
The tree has since been set up in the White House Blue Room. It was decorated by floral department staff and volunteers. What most surprised me in the Reuters story was that this information was supplied by the National Christmas Tree Association (or the NCTA), which has been presenting a tree for the Blue Room annually since 1966.The tree came from the Christmas Tree farm of Christopher Botek, who earned the honor at an NCTA contest in August.
