Washington Post Presidential Podcasts

I want to thank bonewitness for informing me about a new podcast series from the Washington Post. For the 44 Sundays leading up to election day 2016, the Post's leadership editor Lillian Cunningham will feature each president in a podcast about that president's character and legacy. So far I've listened to the first two podcasts, about George Washington and John Adams, as well as the introductory episode.

In the introductory podcast, iconic post reporter Bob Woodward cautions against taking a linear approach to the lives of each President, and Cunningham wisely follows that course. For example, in the episode about John Adams, the podcast discusses why Adams has no monument, and gives an in-depth explanation of what is involved in creating a presidential monument, including the cost and the bureaucratic red tape involved. The episodes are enhanced by input from eminent historians such as David McCullough as well as Julie Miller from the Library of Congress. At times the questioning can be somewhat inane, such as when Cunningham asks Miller what it would be like to go on a blind date with George Washington. This is actually quite amusing however, and the podcasts are generally not stuffy and Cunningham is able to present an intelligent and enjoyable and informative podcast without taking herself too seriously.

The podcasts can be listened to in the web or subscribed to on iTunes. They can be found at this link.
