Harrison House
I'm in Indianapolis at a conference, and whenever I find myself in a strange city, I look for the nearest bit of Presidential history, I'm just that kind of a geek. I didn't have to look far, as this city is home to Harrison House, the home of President Benjamin Harrison. Located a short walk from downtown at 1230 North Delaware Street, the home offers a guided tour of the house the President Harrison lived in both before and after his presidency. The house is staffed by wonderful volunteers who offer a guided tour. I was amazed at how these nice people are loyal to and love this President who died long before they were born.
I snapped a few pics from the tour. Some are dark because most of these places ask you not to use the flash on your camera. Behind the cut are some of the pictures that I took.
1-3. The exterior of the house, including a plaque on a rock outside of the home.

4-7. Inside the entrance on the first floor is a parlour containing this memorabilia.

8. Harrison's desk, with a walking stick with the heads of all previous presidents carved on it. The carver was good with the carving knife, but not so good at spelling. Several of the names of the presidents carved on it are misspelled.

9. The dining room with a collection of white house china and formal invitations to white house dinners.

10. A painting of Harrison as a brigadier general during the civil war.

11. The bed from the master bedroom in the home. This is the bed in which Harrison died.

12. A campaign poster from Harrison's first election.

13. The top floor had an exhibit on Presidents and train travel, in which our host invites all aboard.
For me this marks the 12th presidential library or museum that I've been fortunate to visit. I've been to presidential libraries or museums for Presidents Polk, Grant, Teddy Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, Nixon, and Reagan, as well as to the Lincoln Memorial, Ford Theater (where Lincoln was assassinated) and Dealey Plaza (where Kennedy was assassinated.) The geek in me can never get enough of this stuff.
