Presidential Places:The George W. Bush Presidential Center

On July 6, 1946 (67 years ago today), George Walker Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He is the second president in history to be the son of a president. (I don't have to tell people in this community who the other one is). This year was a special one for him, as the George W. Bush Presidential Center opened earlier this year, on April 25, 2013.

The George W. Bush Presidential Center is the name for a complex that includes President George W. Bush's presidential library and museum, the George W. Bush Policy Institute, and the offices of the George W. Bush Foundation. It is located on the campus of Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. The architect who designed the library was Robert A.M. Stern, dean of the architecture school at Yale University. The groundbreaking ceremony for the center took place on November 16, 2010, coinciding with the publication of President Bush's memoir Decision Points. At the ceremony, Bush's Vice-President, Dick Cheney, commented that "this may be the only shovel-ready project in America," using a term commonly associated with President Barack Obama's 2009 fiscal stimulus package.

The completion and dedication of the facility took place on April 25, 2013. All living former U.S. presidents and the incumbent U.S. president, Barack Obama, were in attendance.
