It's the first day of summer today, my favorite season. It conjures up images of being at the lake, though not necessarily in the way the Lyndon Johnson enjoys the lake in this picture. Taken in 1965, it shows President Johnson taking some friends for a ride in his Amphicar in a lake at his ranch in Stonewall, Texas. An Amphicar is just what it sounds like: an amphibious car. Technically it's not a summer picture though, it was taken on April 11, 1965. Apparently Johnson liked to scare new visitors to his ranch by driving them downhill in his Amphicar directly into his property's lake, all the while shouting that the brakes had broken.
