Potus Geeks Photo: Happy Birthday George H. W. Bush (Great Socks!)

I think others in this community will have more to say about this subject, but I wanted to make sure that the 89th birthday of former President George H. W. Bush didn't pass without being remembered in this community. Bush was born on June 12, 1924. To mark the occasion, the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum comemmorated the occasion with socks. That's right, socks.

The staff at the Bush(41) Library solicited pictures from well-wishers of their colorful socks to celebrate Bush's birthday. On their website, they say "Join us in wishing President Bush a Happy Birthday by wearing your most colorful or outlandish socks. All are invited to submit a photo wearing crazy socks to share in the birthday festivities."

Barbara Bush commented that "George has taken to wearing the weirdest socks. The most colorful, the most wacky. They're better if they're terrible." For instance, at his son George W. Bush's portrait unveiling at the White House last year, the elder Bush wore red, white and blue striped socks. At the George W. Bush library dedication earlier this year his socks were bright pink with blue accents. Today on his facebook page he posted this picture of his socks and those of his great-grandaughter Mila. He had a different patterned sock on each foot (under his presidential slippers) along with his great-granddaughter Mila's birthday booties.



Mila's mother is George W. Bush's daughter, Jenna.

Later Wednesday, his office emailed a photo (shown at the top of this post) of the former president wearing Superman socks while driving a golf cart. The former president, who spent seven weeks in the hospital in December and January, is spending his birthday at his home in Kennebunkport, Maine.
