Vacationing with the President
Despite being on vacation, I had two presidential encounters yesterday. The first was in the morning when I went to visit the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in Dallas. The Museum commemorates the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Inside the museum photographs are prohibited, which was a huge disappointment for me. Otherwise, it was very interesting. When you come in, they give you a headset with a recorded tour guide that leads you through all of the exhibits. I was pleased to see that they didn't just whitewash the Warren Commission findings, but instead had a section for the various conspiracy theories.
I snapped a few pictures of the area where the presidential limo would have driven.
The brown brick building is the Texas School Book Depository (or at least it was in 1963) and from the 6th floor window on the right side, Lee Harvey Oswald is said to have fired his Manlicher-Carcano rifle and assassinated President John F. Kennedy, though conspiracy theorists have their doubts. The third and the last pictures are of the spot where he was shot and the fifth is of the infamous "grassy knoll" where some witnesses say other shots came from.

For those interested, here is the famous "Zapruder film" of the assassination. Warning, it's pretty disturbing.
My second encounter with the Presidency was unexpected. I went to see a Texas Rangers game last night, and seated in the front row next to the Rangers' dugout were George and Laura Bush. The crowd cheered loudly when they were announced and I didn't hear any boos. They still love him in Texas. I managed to snap this picture of the Bushes from my seat along the third base line.

I'm back to holiday mode and won't have much internet access, so this blog probably won't be updated much until the 23rd. Have a great summer everyone.
