The American Presidential Elections Series
I've journalled in the past about the American Presidents Series, a set of concise biographies about the Presidents. I've discovered another series of books about the presidency, specifically about certain presidential elections. They're known as the American Presidential Election Series and are published by the University of Kansas Press. Following is a list of the books in the series:
1. By One Vote: The Disputed Presidential Election of 1876 by Michael F. Holt (2008), 300 pages, Cloth ISBN 978-0-7006-1608-4, $34.95. Paper ISBN 978-0-7006-1787-6, $19.95

2. Deadlocked Election of 1800: Jefferson, Burr, and the Union in the Balance by James Roger Sharp. (2010) 248 pages, Cloth ISBN 978-0-7006-1742-5, $34.95
3. Electing FDR: The New Deal Campaign of 1932 byDonald A. Ritchie. (2007), 274 pages, Cloth ISBN 978-0-7006-1550-6, $29.95. Paper ISBN 978-0-7006-1687-9, $19.95
4. Four Hats in the Ring: The 1912 Election and the Birth of Modern American Politics by Lewis L. Gould (2008), 236 pages, Cloth ISBN 978-0-7006-1564-3 $29.95. Paper ISBN 978-0-7006-1856-9, $19.95
5. Minority Victory: Gilded Age Politics and the Front Porch Campaign of 1888 byCharles W. Calhoun (2008) 240 pages, Cloth ISBN 978-0-7006-1596-4 $29.95
6. Party over Section: The Rough and Ready Presidential Campaign of 1848 by Joel H. Silbey (2009) 224 pages, Cloth ISBN 978-0-7006-1640-4 $34.95
7. Reagan’s Victory: The Presidential Election of 1980 and the Rise of the Right by Andrew E. Busch (2005) 200 pages, Cloth 978-0-7006-1407-3 $35.00. Paper 978-0-7006-1408-0 $16.95
8. The Real Making of the President: Kennedy, Nixon, and the 1960 Election by W. J. Rorabaugh (2009) 256 pages, Cloth ISBN 978-0-7006-1639-8 $34.95

9. Realigning America: McKinley, Bryan, and the Remarkable Election of 1896 by R. Hal Williams (2010) 272 pages, Cloth ISBN 978-0-7006-1721-0, $29.95
10. Vindicating Andrew Jackson: The 1828 Election and the Rise of the Two-Party System by Donald B. Cole (2009) 280 pages, Cloth ISBN 978-0-7006-1661-9, $34.95
I've read and reviewed the book about the 1876 election, and am presently reading the one about the 1912 election, which I will review when I finish it. These books are somewhat more scholarly and pedantic than those by best-selling historians like David Pietrusza, Doris Kearns Goodwin or Candice Millard (not to suggest that those authors aren't first rate historians, because they most certainly are), but the books in this series are like heroin if you're a presidential history junkie like me. I wouldn't be surprised if more of these don't find their way into my presidential library.
