Potus Geeks Turns Four!

Happy birthday potus_geeks! It was four years ago today, on March 26, 2010, that this community began, with its first post being a modest Welcome to the Dorky Little Community. (I've since been corrected about the difference between a dork and a geek. In the case of the latter, it implies that the person knows something about their subject, but gets carried away with it.)

At the time of the first post, the potus_geeks library looked like this:

It has grown to over 500 books, and numerous DVDs. There have been over 1,760 journal entries in this community, reviews of over 70 books have been posted, and we have survived one presidential election. In recent times, this community has covered a number of interesting themes, including:

Presidential Elections past (October, 2012)
Inaugurations (January, 2013)
First Ladies (February and March, 2013)
Presidents portrayed in Movies and TV (April, 2013)
Runners-up and Also Rans (May, 2013)
Presidential Libraries and Museums (July, 2013)
Vice Presidents (September, 2013)
The 50th Anniversary of the Assassination of John F. Kennedy and his final month in office (November, 2013)
The Presidents at Christmas (December, 2012 and 2013)
Presidents and their Advisers (January, 2014)
First Lovebirds (February, 2014)
Presidents at War (March, 2014)

Since the last anniversary of this community, I have been able to report on visits to the William Henry Harrison monument in West Bend, Ohio and the William Howard Taft Presidential Historic Site in Cincinnati. (An intended visit to the Nixon Library was foiled by the government shutdown last spring!) This year I hope to visit the James K. Polk Historic Site again as well as make my first visit to the Hermitage, Home of Andrew Jackson (stay tuned for those reports). There have also been additions to the collection of Presidents Pez Dispensers too.

Thanks to those of you who read potus_geeks, and to those who contribute articles and comments. If you don't already follow @Potus_Geeks on Twitter, please do so.

For the rest of this year, we'll change gears next month and look at Presidents at Peace next month. I'm currently reading John Boyko's excellent 2013 book Blood and Daring, which I'll review as soon as I finish reading it. (Sneak peak: it's outstanding!) There are mid-term elections happening in November and by the end of the year we should have some idea which candidates will be making a serious run for the presidency in 2016.

As always, your contributions are more than welcome. Please submit your posts to potus_geeks, we'd love to get your take on Presidents and other matters of POTUS geekery.

Happy birthday to us!

Happy birthday!

I may go to Theodore Roosevelt's birthplace over spring Break in a few weeks. If I do, I'll do a write up.

That would be great. Do you mean the house in Manhattan? If so, I think you'll enjoy it a lot.
